ArtBoard Tool
An artboard is essentially a rectangular-shaped container that functions a lot like a layer group. The artboard tool in the Tools panel is grouped with the Move tool. It is used to create unique group layers known as artboards, which specify canvas subareas and expand the canvas when they are moved.
In Adobe Photoshop, the Artboard tool is used to create and manage multiple canvases within a single document. Artboards are similar to canvases but are primarily intended for creating designs for multiple devices or project variations within the same file.
Here are some key features and uses of the Artboard tool in Photoshop:
- Multiple Canvases: The Artboard tool allows you to create and manage multiple artboards within a single document. Each artboard acts as an individual canvas within the same file.
- Different Sizes and Orientations: You can create artboards of varying sizes, resolutions, and orientations (landscape or portrait) within the same document. This feature is particularly useful when designing for different screen sizes or devices.
- Organizing Design Variations: Designers often use artboards to create different versions or variations of a design in a single file. For example, you can create separate artboards for desktop, tablet, and mobile versions of a website design.
- Exporting Multiple Designs: Artboards make it easier to export multiple designs or variations at once. You can export each artboard individually or export them all together, streamlining the design process.
- Select the Artboard tool from the toolbar. It looks like a rectangle with a dashed border and an arrow pointing to the top-left corner.
- Click and drag on the canvas to create an artboard. You can specify the size and orientation in the options bar at the top of the screen.
- To add more artboards, select the Artboard tool again and click anywhere on the canvas to create additional artboards.
